Fiscal Dignity For All

Councilmember Singh knows that every family wants and deserves the dignity of providing life necessities for those they love. In too many homes with full-time breadwinners, families are still forced to do without or borrow to stretch between paychecks and bill cycles as housing, communication, utilities, grocery, transportation, education, child care and health care costs continue to pummel them.

Seema’s work to reduce household utilities expenses was directly realized in every home, regardless of economic background. With steadily increasing KUB fees that last year reached $80 per month -- not including the water or electricity itself -- Seema introduced a City Council resolution that led to KUB compromises, including a five-year freeze on fees and forming a Community Advisory Board with low-income representation.

Seema continues to partner with private and public organizations. In her next term, her goals include working with KUB to get lower-cost broadband high-speed internet service into every home in the district. This empowers every citizen, by instantly opening the doors of education and opportunity to all residents.

While internet access is an integral part of inclusion and empowerment, Councilperson Singh knows that sometimes, nothing can replace face-to-face support. That’s why she will continue to work with leaders in at-risk communities to help form, fund, or improve non-profit organizations that work with the surrounding residents on job training and placement programs locally.
